Progressive Democrat Nichole Mossalam to run for State Representative in Malden, Medford
Mossalam is the chair of Malden’s Disability Commission, former co-chair of Our Revolution Massachusetts (ORMA), a state-wide progressive advocacy organization, and was founding director of The Islamic Cultural Center of Medford (ICCM)
Malden (MA) – Nichole Mossalam today officially announced her candidacy for State Representative from the 35th Middlesex District, which includes parts of the City of Medford and the City of Malden. She is challenging State Representative Paul Donato in the Democratic primary. Donato is serving his 10th term in office and is part of House Speaker Robert Deleo’s leadership team.
“I’m running for State Representative because our state legislature has failed to adequately address the challenges that so many people in our communities are facing,” Mossalam said. “On a wide array of issues, we have seen too many legislators follow the Speaker’s agenda. We need independent leaders who will put the concerns of our families first.”
Mossalam is the chair of Malden’s Disability Commission, where she has applied a collaborative leadership style to begin the process of developing a city-wide accessibility study, address parking and playground accessibility at the city’s public schools, and roll out police-stop communication cards for the hard of hearing. As former co-chair of Our Revolution, a state-wide progressive advocacy organization, she helped create a firm foundation in the organization’s first year, build an inclusive environment for activists, and support local chapters in their advocacy of issues that strengthen their communities. Mossalam was the Founding Director of the Islamic Cultural Center of Medford, where she ran interfaith programming and coordinated community outreach.
Mossalam and her husband, Mohanad, live in Malden where they are raising three children and their two adopted dogs. They came to Malden to be part of a diverse community where people share the same concerns and are actively engaged in civic life. Both have a passion for working hard and giving back. Nichole does so by focusing on her non-profit administration and consulting work, and volunteering in various community roles.
Mossalam said, “Our community and economy are rapidly changing and we need a leader who will stand up for all our residents and build a better future for our children. I know how to bring people together to get things done for working families. We have a great opportunity with new leadership to ensure all of our voices are heard and our community needs are put first.”
